I grew up with homemade play dough, faded pink and tasting of salt. Little bird nests with eggs were made daily, before being confetti-ed onto the floor. Once it dried out, I cried, because i knew i had to wait until another rainy day. Another rainy day which begged for a warm batch imagination. It really was warm, fresh from the pot. I miss my desire to keep/make memories like that. “sigh”. One day I will grow up.
Until then, Emery enjoys her vibrant play dough, pushed and smeared into plastic moulds. No birds nests here…you probably could buy a mould for that. Truth is, i can’t help but use the easy way out. Even now, Emery is asking for a play dough snake….*there* Just pushed it through a silly contraption. No rolling or twisting here.
Goal of the day: make a nest, with eggs of all shapes. Lick fingers. They will taste of salt, because i know they won’t disappoint my memory. I’ll probably tell Emery to lick hers. I hope she thinks its gross…because that would be funny. Premade stuff is great, but sometimes, my hair is cute, I got dressed before noon, and every sock in the laundry had a match. Todays our day, and faded pink happens to be my favourite color.
1 cup white flour
1/4 cup of salt
2 tsps cream of tartar
1 cup water
1 tbsp oil
2 tsps food colouring
Mix flour, salt, and cream of tartar in a medium pot. Add water, oil and food colouring. Cook and stir over medium heat. When mixture forms a ball in the pot, turn out and knead on a slightly floured surface. Store in airtight container or plastic bag.
For variety, add Kool-Aid powder to dry ingredients instead of food colouring. It will smell great!
Dude, you need to be a writer. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI second that.
